Leap Year, Leap List

Happy Leap-Year Week! In honor of this most confusing American tradition (that whole worldwide adjustment to help synchronize the calendar to the solar year is a little beyond our realm of limited scientific understanding), today we thought we would discuss something leap related: Leap Lists!

Leap Lists, sometimes called bucket lists, are lists of things that you want to do in a certain time frame (ie- before you die, before you turn 40, before you have kids). Leap lists make sure that you don’t wake up sometime down the road and realize you haven’t gotten around to as much life as you were hoping you would. Plus, making a list of amazing goals is really fun!

If you and your husband-to-be have a leap list, why not display it at your wedding to let your guests peek at your future? Some brides and grooms even ask guests to contribute as part of their guestbook by having guests fill out cards that say “In the next 5 years, make sure to:” or “Before your 30th anniversary, definitely do:”.

Leap lists don’t just have to be lists of things to accomplish before you die, though. Making a leap list with your wedding day or your honeymoon as the deadline, , can be a great way to make sure you have every experience you have always dreamed of. Your wedding day will fly by in a haze of happiness and overwhelming emotion, making it really easy to forget about that special photo you wanted to take, or the family tradition you planned (which is one good reason why having a day of coordinator or wedding planner can be really helpful). If you want to have a three-course breakfast with your bridesmaids, or take a special photo with your dad on the morning of your big day, write it on your list. Making a list can help clarify what you want from your wedding experience, and help you remember to savor the little moments.

What are some of your wedding leap list ideas? What is one thing (wedding or otherwise) that you have done that you think everyone should experience?

I love this as we got married on leap year and I get to celebrate all those 5 and 10 year markers but this time, 7 leap years. The most fun of all!
